Tara Filosa is in the Cabinet and countertop sales and design department in Marion Iowa.

- What is one of the favorite parts of your job:
Designing and selling the project.
- What are some of your favorite products to sell and why?
I enjoy selling cabinets with accessories, countertops and decorative hardware. I take time to listen to my customers, and help them create layouts (for kitchens etc) that are functional for their lifestyle. Its fun to see what vision boards they come in with and try to give them the look they are after.
- What new products are you excited about?
New vanities from Hardware resources.
- What is one of your favorite product lines and why?
We have been introduced to some new decorative hardware and accessories. I like to keep my customers informed on the latest styles.
- What is one design trend you like right now?
I enjoy the minimalist look with two tone kitchens and box style range hoods.
- What is a product you think customers should know more about?
Customers are not always aware of how their appliance choices can affect their kitchen layout.
- Describe some skills your job needs:
Detail oriented, good math skills, design experience, good selling abilities. Being able to multi-task.
- What is your proudest accomplishment in your career at Gilcrest/Jewett?
All my customers are important to me so I have a hard time saying one job stands out. My coworker said to me today that I am great at fostering a better work environment within the workplace.
Working in the construction industry
- How long have you been working in the building industry? 30 plus years
- What initially drew you to a career in the construction industry?
I’ve always enjoyed the house building process. Originally, I worked in the interior design field but I like the construction end of the business better.
- Did you have any female role models in the construction/building industry?
No. I started out working for a builder with only male coworkers.
- What advice would you give to other women considering a career in this industry?
Look into the different courses offered at your local colleges. Find a mentor and see if being an intern might be a possibility to see if you enjoy the process.
- What skills or attributes do you believe are essential for women to succeed in the construction/building industry?
Believe that you can do the job and listen to those with knowledge and experience to help guide you along the way. Selling skills are a must and a positive attitude.
